13: Action: The October Crisis (1974) with J.J. McCullough

Cartoonist and pundit J.J. McCullough joins Becky and Cam to discuss the 1974 documentary Action: The October Crisis of 1970 as well as to a lesser extent, its companion documentary Reaction: A Portrait of a society in crisis. Please note that this film contains footage and images of actual graphic violence and corpses and so we offer a trigger warning in advance before watching this film or listening to the episode. We cover the history of Quebec, the crisis, and the track record of Canadian politics when it comes to civil liberties, the effective filmmaking techniques used for this documentary, as well as other films that delve deeper into this period of history in interesting ways. Both films are available for free streaming at the NFB website. You can find Action here, and Reaction here.
