58: Ginger Snaps with Courtney Gilmour
This week, we're joined by brilliant stand-up comic Courtney Gilmour, for the biting feminist teen horror comedy Ginger Snaps. We discuss the "Girl Power" era of feminism, late 90's portrayals of teenage violence, and differentiating fake and real gore within a movie's world. Add to that Cam rocking the puns, Becky using "Harold-and-Maudian" as an adjective and Courtney just being generally insightful and funny. If you're a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Orphan Black or any 90's teen comedy, this is the Halloween treat for you. You can find Ginger Snaps on iTunes, DVD or BluRay.
Courtney Gilmour co-produces "So Fresh N' So Clean", Toronto's only clean comedy show and has also opened for a number of prominent headlining acts including Todd Glass, Aparna Nancherla, and Chris Gethard. She has previously made appearances at the All Jane Comedy Festival in Portland, NXNE, and SiriusXM's Top Comic. Visit her on twitter @courtgilmour
This week's end music is the Ginger Snaps' Theme, composed by Michael Shields.
