174: The films facilitated by LIFT (Part 1) with Chris Kennedy

Welcome back to a new year with the Royal Canadian Movie Podcast. This week, we’re aiming to inspire you to make beautiful things as we talk to The Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto (LIFT) executive director Chris Kennedy.

For those of you not familiar with LIFT, is an artist-run charitable organization which provides media arts education and production resources to help achieve greatness in the moving picture arts,. Founded in 1981, LIFT now supports on average 1000 productions annually, offers 180 workshops a year, collaborates on community projects while also facilitating artist residencies and mentorships for emerging filmmakers.

In addition to helping us learn more about LIFT and what they have to offer, Chris has also selected a series of compelling short films of which LIFT contributed to the creation. This week, we’ll discuss two films, Mike Hoolboom’s Frank’s Cock from 1993, and Elida Schogt’s Zyklon Portrait from 1999. Next week, we’ll dive into three more.

Head to https://lift.ca/ to learn more about workshops, memberships and other resources!

Both films can be found on our website.
